With the seasons changing in front of our eyes, we decided to make a change of our own. A common theme heard around the Minneapolis office was a high involvement of our staff with various non-profit organizations around the metro, but they were all individual efforts. It dawned on Mike Murtaugh, our director of new business development, to bring everyone and their charitable causes together.
“With so many people doing their own volunteering on their own time, I figured there had to be a way for Business Essentials (BE) to not only spread the word about these organizations, but to make a bigger impact through working together.”
Just like that, the BE Philanthropy Committee was formed. After one formal meeting, they’ve wasted no time and started a new BE Giving initiative. From now until Thanksgiving, we will have three separate donation bins in our Minneapolis office collecting for three different causes.
The red labeled tote is for non-perishable items to be donated to Sharing and Caring Hands—a non-profit organization providing numerous services to more than 20,000 people who rely on their facility each month.
The black labeled tote is for personal hygiene products (toothpaste, soap, shampoo, hair brushes, and tooth brushes) to be donated to Dakota Woodlands—a non-profit organization providing shelter and other services to homeless women and their families.
The white labeled tote is for school-aged kids coats, hats, mittens, and gloves that will be donated to elementary schools in the Brooklyn Center area.
While this is the kick-off event for this committee, we’re sure there will be many for reasons to give in the months to come. What does your business, organization, or family do to give back to the community? We’d love to partner with you.
